LINDEN – Mrs. Lillian G. Shirley, 40, died at 6 a.m. Wednesday at her home here. She had been in ill health for a year. Coroner Russell Powers said she took her own life. Mrs. Shirley was a secretary for Tipmont REMC. She had attended high school in Kentucky, Midway Junior College, also in Kentucky and Indiana Business College in Lafayette. She was a member of the Linden New Testament Baptist Church. Mrs. Shirley was born May 29, 1931, in Crab Orchard, Ky. She was the foster daughter of Dr. and Mrs. L. M. Baker of W. Lafayette She married Paul C. Shirley Jan. 29, 1950 in Lafayette. They had resided in Linden since 1956, moving there from Lafayette. She is survived by the husband; three sons, Daniel L. serving with the U.S. Navy and Charles and Robert at home; a daughter. Mrs. Tracy Sparby of New Richmond; two grandchildren and the foster parents. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, at New Testament Baptist Church. The body will lie in state for one hour preceding services. Rev. Leon Ellis will officiate. Burial will be in Linden Cemetery. Friends may call at Helms Funeral Home after 2 p.m. Friday. – jlr
